Accolades and awards for BUWOG

The sustainable qualities of neighbourhood developments and new construction projects are always evident in practice when BUWOG’s motto of happy living becomes visible and tangible. Awards and accolades also recognise BUWOG’s activities and the strength of its brand. Now there are several more awards – and with them, plenty of reason to celebrate.

Great product, strong brand: At the European Real Estate Brand Awards 2025, BUWOG was named the winner in the “Developers Residential Austria” category. To award the brand diamond, the European Real Estate Brand Institute conducts a scientific assessment of the image and brand qualities of leading real estate companies.

The brand study examined over 1,200 brands in 45 European real estate markets and surveyed approximately 150,000 industry experts. For this, the institute’s study assigned BUWOG a brand value of 90.10 – a top score among the industry benchmarks. Harald Steiner, CEO of the institute, commented: “Increased brand strength, a consistently positive product experience, and the development of new business areas are what make BUWOG stand out in the planning and realisation of residential real estate. Here, the brand also achieves top scores in recommendations due to the sum of all positive assessment criteria.”

Award for BUWOG as Sustainable Brand of the Year

BUWOG also played a role in the German Brand Awards ceremony on 26 June 2025, where it won in two categories: Sustainable Brand of the Year and in the main category Excellent Brands – Real Estate & Property. The jury’s statement: “BUWOG’s brand management combines sustainability, transparency, and quality into a consistent, stylish overall strategy. With a clear focus on sustainable neighbourhood development and smart urban concepts, it creates residential space that reflects modern needs and ecological responsibility in equal measure. Its cross-media communication – from podcasts to social media – engages in target group-relevant messaging, resulting in an incomparable brand. This combination of value orientation and well-thought-out communication sets a powerful example for sustainable brand work.”

Daniel Riedl, member of the Vonovia management board responsible for BUWOG’s operations in Austria and BUWOG development in Germany, is also pleased: “Sustainability and architectural quality have always been an element of BUWOG’s DNA. With neighbourhood developments and new construction projects, we are a reliable and long-term partner for buyers, neighbourhoods, the industry, and the urban community. We are delighted that this is once again reflected in the German Brand Award.”

BUWOG has approximately 55,000 apartments under construction or in planning throughout Germany. The company’s sustainability activities include, in particular, the use and promotion of CO2-reducing construction methods, environmentally friendly building materials, innovative energy concepts, and concepts for non-motorised mobility, which can already be seen in numerous BUWOG developments.

One such successful BUWOG development has already won an award this year: On Heinestrasse in Darmstadt, Hesse, BUWOG has just created 91 new apartments with residential space totalling approximately 6,000 m².

tinctive feature: Six architecturally fascinating new builds are integrated into the open areas between existing buildings, creating new residential space through sustainable densification.

The urban design emerged from multiple contracts awarded to the Darmstadt-based firm Büro mijaa Raummanufaktur. At the same time, a new landscaped garden and play areas for children are being created in the development. A fantastic concept that has now won gold: The BUWOG project in Darmstadt has now been honoured with the prestigious Polis Award in the “Intelligent Densification” category.

The Polis Award recognises the sustainable densification of the location-adapted residential development.
