On 5 and 6 June 2024, the Real Estate Arena, one of the most important events in the real estate industry, is taking place in Hannover. BUWOG will also be in attendance and present its new construction projects and neighbourhood developments.
Organised at the Hannover Exhibition Centre, the event is aimed at professionals from the real estate industry, including investors, developers, architects and urban planners. The event provides an important platform for sharing expertise and ideas on the latest trends and future developments in the property business. More than 50 companies have already confirmed their participation. Around 5,000 people attended the last event.
Leading private property developer BUWOG will also be at the Real Estate Arena in 2024 and present its latest projects. BUWOG has approximately 55,000 apartments under construction and in planning nationwide. The company plans to construct at least 20 percent of its development pipeline in various construction methods using timber, thus relying to a significant degree on the renewable and CO2-storing raw material. BUWOG is also an active member of the KOALITION für HOLZBAU (Coalition for Timber Construction), a nationwide initiative of researchers, planners and builders in the field of timber construction.
Innovations along the value chain
“The Real Estate Arena’s approach involving all participants in the real estate value chain is unparalleled – and can deliver genuine added value right this very moment,” Hartwig von Saß, project manager at Deutsche Messe AG for the 2024 Real Estate Arena, points out. “The problems in the industry are now so complex that they can no longer be solved between project developers and investors alone. Cooperation across the individual disciplines generates a real competitive advantage.”
A steady stream of new regulations, the explosion of interest rates, a shortage of skilled workers, and climate change: “The list of challenges that the real estate industry has had to face – in some cases for years – is extensive,” the organiser explains.
Focus on sustainable urban development
Desealing, rainwater management and handling record heat: cities in this country have a large number of issues on their agenda when it comes to climate resilience and adaptation to the impact of climate change. Sustainable urban development will therefore be a critical topic this year, with a special focus on environmentally friendly construction methods and technologies. There will be numerous presentations and discussion panels with high-calibre experts who will provide insight into the latest innovations and best practices in the industry. On stage, the specialist audience can expect presentations by financial journalist Anja Kohl, presenter Eckart von Hirschhausen, renowned environmental researcher Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart and others.
Another focus of the 2024 Real Estate Arena is digitalisation in the property industry. In addition to the specialist programme, the Real Estate Arena also provides numerous opportunities for networking in order to learn about innovations, develop joint solutions or seek cooperation. Participants have the chance to make contacts and meet potential business partners. The trade fair therefore promotes dialogue between a variety of players in the real estate industry and assists in developing collaborations and new business models.
New platform: the Construction Contest
Finding and implementing innovations is also an important concern for Daniel Riedl, CEO of Vonovia responsible for BUWOG operations. “To create sustainable and affordable residential space, we are looking, in particular, for innovative, cost-efficient solutions from start-ups and corporates in the categories of building materials, construction and production techniques.”
For the first time, there is an invitation to the Construction Contest, for which both start-ups and grown-ups can apply through 10 June 2024. Daniel Riedl: “As Europe’s largest residential property company and market leader in the residential industry, our aim is to be a key driver of climate protection. To this end, we are pursuing the goal of a building inventory that is virtually climate-neutral by 2045. Innovation is key to achieving this. I recommend that every innovator enter our Construction Contest with market-ready solutions that can be implemented. As part of a jury, I’m looking forward to personally examining new ideas and lending support to their concrete implementation where it makes sense and to helping make sustainable residential space affordable.”
