BUWOG presents the festival of light art – mayor opens “Berlin Lights”

Autumn in Berlin is colourful and glows in every shade of the rainbow: Berlin natives and newcomers alike are enjoying the over 70 illuminations scattered throughout the city – this year for the 15th time.

The opening celebration for the “Berlin Lights” festival in Europacity is taking place this time near the new construction project BUWOG The One – presented by the BUWOG Group. With the press of a button, Mayor Michael Müller himself will switch on the sea of lights, illuminating the sky of Berlin.

Illuminated cranes: : the sky’s the limit at the lights festival

With ten elaborately illuminated cranes, Europacity itself is the focal point of the “Berlin Lights” festival this year, and for good reason – the partners of “Berlin Lights” are the Europacity quarter initiators ADLER Real Estate community, BUWOG, CA Immo, DWI Group, EDGE Technologies and Quartier Heidestrasse.

They have all spared no expense or effort to ensure their “construction equipment” is lit up spectacularly. While the cranes are busily in operation across Europacity’s numerous construction sites during the day, after dark they turn into filigree light sculptures. Colourful lights with an energy of about a million watts illuminate the steel giants. At the light festival they symbolise the future of the emerging Europacity.

Spotlight on Berlin’s new centre

Berlin is growing and experiencing a metamorphosis – especially here in Europacity, the most exciting construction project since the emergence of Potsdamer Platz 20 years ago. In the next few years, around 3,000 new apartments, 16,500 new jobs, a variety of shopping and dining options and several city squares will be built on a total area of 61 hectares.

The BUWOG Group is carrying out the construction project BUWOG The One here. The impressive new building with its three-dimensional, folded façade will be finalised by 2019. Ten residential buildings with 231 condominiums, seven retail units and two restaurant areas are being built here directly on Otto-Weidt-Platz, the heart of Europacity. “The illuminated cranes in the Heidestrasse neighbourhood, Wasserstadt Mitte and at BUWOG The One are already lighting up the future of the new district today,” says BUWOG Managing Director Alexander Happ.

Berlin united in the magic of lights

The theme of this year’s spectacle of lights is suggestive of new and old, the unfamiliar and the familiar: light energises – people, cultures, cities and nations. The richly faceted light installations underscore the unifying power of colourful light art. From the Oberbaum Bridge across the Humboldt Forum and Berlin Cathedral to the Berlin Radio Tower, there are numerous works of light art to discover from East to West – until 14.10.
